It is a strong, evidence-backed option for men who have sex with men and for transgender women. It is not recommended if you have hepatitis B, and it is not approved for vaginal sex.

What Tests Do You Need Before Starting PrEP?
A few quick tests make sure PrEP is safe and right for you before we prescribe anything.
The most important is an HIV test. You must be HIV-negative before starting. We do a rapid test here with results in about 20 minutes. We also check your hepatitis B status, because one of the main PrEP medications can affect hepatitis B management if you stop it unexpectedly. Your kidney function is checked too, since the medication is processed by the kidneys and is not suitable for everyone. For most healthy adults this is fine, but it is a necessary baseline.

How Much Does PrEP Cost in Pattaya?
Thai generic TDF/FTC, the equivalent of brand-name Truvada, typically costs between 500 and 1,500 baht per month depending on the brand. The branded version costs significantly more. PrEP is taken before potential exposure. It is a prevention strategy you build into your routine. PEP, post-exposure prophylaxis, is an emergency treatment taken after a potential HIV exposure. It must be started within 72 hours of that exposure, and the sooner the better. Every hour counts.

Side Effects and Ongoing Monitoring
Most people tolerate PrEP well. Some notice mild nausea or headaches in the first week or two, and these usually settle on their own. Serious side effects are uncommon, but kidney function can be affected with long-term use, which is why monitoring matters.
