Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, is legally a prescription-only medication in Thailand. Many Pattaya pharmacies sell it without asking for one, but that does not make it safe to buy that way. The real risk is not getting caught — it is taking the wrong dose or the wrong pill without anyone checking your health history first. A quick clinic consultation is the fastest way to get a genuine product, the right dose, and no nasty surprises.
You are a few days into your Pattaya holiday and a mate mentions you can grab Viagra at any pharmacy on the street. Maybe the pharmacist is already holding a box up before you have even asked. Plenty of men do exactly that and walk away fine. Some do not, and the ones who run into trouble usually have a medical history nobody thought to ask about.
The short answer is yes, you can almost certainly walk into a Pattaya pharmacy and walk out with sildenafil. The longer answer is that you probably should not do it that way. This guide covers what you are actually being sold, where the real risks are, and how to sort it properly without losing more than twenty minutes of your trip.

What the Law Actually Says, and What Happens in Practice
Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration classifies sildenafil as a prescription medication. That is the law. In practice, pharmacies in tourist-heavy areas like Pattaya, Jomtien, and around Walking Street sell it over the counter without asking for one.
Nobody is going to arrest you for buying it. But the gap between law and practice matters for one reason: when a pharmacist skips the prescription step, they are also skipping the screening step. No one is checking whether you are on heart medication or anything else that could make this dangerous.
Viagra, Sidegra, Kamagra — What You Are Actually Being Handed
This is the part most guides skip, and it is the part that matters most when you are standing at a pharmacy counter.
Branded Pfizer Viagra exists in Thailand but is expensive and genuinely rare outside licensed clinics and hospital pharmacies. What most pharmacies stock is Sidegra, a sildenafil generic made by Thailand’s Government Pharmaceutical Organisation. It contains the same active ingredient at the same dose and is regulated and legitimate when bought from a licensed pharmacy.
Kamagra is a different matter. It is an Indian-manufactured generic that turns up all over Pattaya in jelly sachets and flavoured tablets. It is not approved by the Thai FDA. Some batches are fine. Some are not. You have no way of knowing which you are getting.
Then there are pills sold from street carts and unlicensed vendors around Walking Street. These could contain sildenafil, a random dose of it, or something else entirely. We have seen patients come in after a bad reaction to pills bought off a table outside a bar. Do not buy from street vendors. That one is not a grey area.

The Dosage Problem — Why 100mg Is Not Always the Right Starting Point
Pattaya pharmacies almost always default to 100mg tablets. That is the maximum recommended dose, not the standard starting point. Many men do well on 25mg or 50mg. Starting at 100mg raises the chance of side effects: headache, flushing, vision changes, and a drop in blood pressure.
If you have never taken sildenafil before, 100mg is a place you might end up, not necessarily where you begin. A doctor can advise on what dose makes sense based on your health history and anything else you are taking. That conversation takes about ten minutes.
Who Should Never Take Sildenafil Without Seeing a Doctor First
Read this section before you do anything else.
If you take any nitrate medication, including GTN spray for angina, isosorbide tablets, or a nitrate patch, do not take sildenafil. The combination can cause a severe drop in blood pressure that can be fatal. This is a well-documented interaction and not a theoretical risk.
The same warning applies to recreational amyl nitrate, commonly called poppers. If you use poppers and take sildenafil on the same night, your blood pressure can crash hard. A lot of men in Pattaya’s nightlife scene do not connect the two. Now you do.
Men on alpha-blockers, used for high blood pressure or prostate conditions, need a dose adjustment and careful timing. Men with a recent heart attack or stroke, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or severe liver disease should not take sildenafil without specialist sign-off. If any of these apply to you, come and talk to us before picking anything up.
The Counterfeit Risk in Pattaya
Counterfeit sildenafil is a real problem here. The pills often look legitimate. The packaging can be convincing. Some contain no active ingredient. Some contain too much. A few have contained undisclosed substances with their own risks.
The highest-risk sources are street vendors, beach sellers, and any transaction that does not happen inside an actual licensed pharmacy. If someone is selling you sildenafil from a bag or a folding table, walk away. If a pharmacy cannot show you the original sealed manufacturer’s box, be cautious.
Your safest options are Sidegra in original GPO packaging or a product dispensed through a clinic like Doctor Pattaya, where the supply chain is known.
Should You Bring Sildenafil From Home or Buy It in Pattaya?
If you are already prescribed sildenafil by your GP at home, bringing your own supply is straightforward. Keep it in the original packaging with your prescription label. A short covering letter from your doctor adds extra protection at customs, though personal-use quantities up to a 30-day supply are rarely a problem in practice.
If you are not prescribed it at home and want to try it for the first time in Pattaya, buying locally through a clinic is simpler and safer than sourcing it before you fly. A walk-in consultation takes about fifteen minutes and you leave with a proper prescription and a genuine product at the right dose.
How to Get Sildenafil Safely in Pattaya
A quick medical consultation is not the inconvenience most men expect. You walk in, we ask a few questions about your health history, blood pressure, and current medications, and we sort you out. No judgment, no awkwardness. We do this every day.
The visit tells us what dose is right for you, rules out the contraindications above, and means you leave with something you can trust. You can walk in without an appointment at Doctor Pattaya in South Pattaya. If getting to the clinic is difficult, a doctor can come to your hotel anywhere across Pattaya, Jomtien, or Naklua.
If it is useful, we can handle STD testing in Pattaya or a general health screen in the same visit. A lot of our expat patients combine a men’s health check with whatever else needs sorting. It makes sense to get it all done at once.
