The main emergency number in Pattaya for medical crises is 1669, which connects to the national ambulance service. For police, call 191 or the tourist police on 1155, who are more likely to speak English. For urgent but non-life-threatening situations, a 24-hour private clinic is often faster and more practical than waiting in a public A&E.
You did not plan for this. Maybe it is a bad fall off a rented scooter on Sukhumvit Road, a friend who has been vomiting all night after dinner in Jomtien, or a moment at the beach that went sideways fast. You are reaching for your phone and you have no idea which number to dial. That is a terrible feeling, especially somewhere you do not speak the language.
Save this page now, before you need it. Below is every number that matters in Pattaya, what actually happens when you call each one, and how to decide which call to make first.

Every Emergency Number in Pattaya Worth Having
These are the numbers that cover Pattaya and the surrounding areas, including Jomtien, Naklua, and Pratumnak.
| Service | Number | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ambulance / Medical Emergency | 1669 | National EMS line. English support is inconsistent. |
| Tourist Police | 1155 | English-speaking. Best first call for tourists needing police help. |
| Thai Police (general) | 191 | Thai language. For serious crimes and accidents. |
| Fire Brigade | 199 | Covers Pattaya city. |
| Poison Control Center | 1367 | Staffed by pharmacists. Available 24 hours. |
| Disease Control Hotline | 1422 | For infectious disease concerns, bites, and exposures. |
| Emergency (combined line) | 112 | Works from mobile phones. Connects to police dispatch. |
| Doctor Pattaya (24-hour private clinic) | doctorpattaya.com | English-speaking doctors. Walk-in, call, or WhatsApp. Hotel visits available. |
A few things to know before you dial. The 1155 tourist police line is consistently more English-friendly than 191 or 1669. If you need police and your Thai is zero, start with 1155. The poison control line at 1367 is staffed by pharmacists who can advise quickly if someone has swallowed something harmful. Do not wait to call them.
What Actually Happens When You Call 1669 in Pattaya
Most tourists expect a Western-style ambulance with a paramedic team. That is not always what arrives.
When you call 1669, the call goes to a dispatch centre. In many cases, the first responders are volunteer rescue foundation workers rather than full paramedics. They are trained, they will help, and they move quickly. English communication is hit and miss.
You will almost certainly be taken to a public hospital, not a private one. That means Bangkok Pattaya Hospital or Pattaya Memorial, depending on your location. Public A&E wait times vary widely. Public hospitals are significantly cheaper but will likely need a translator for anything detailed.
Call 1669 for anything life-threatening: unconsciousness, suspected cardiac arrest, severe trauma with heavy bleeding, suspected stroke, or drowning. Do not try to drive someone in that condition. Do not wait.

When to Call a Private Clinic Instead of an Ambulance
This is the question nobody answers clearly, and it matters.
A lot of situations in Pattaya are genuinely urgent but not 1669-level. Deep cuts that need stitching. A high fever that has been building for two days. Food poisoning that has you flat on the floor but your heart is beating fine. A motorbike graze that needs proper cleaning before infection sets in. Allergic reactions that are uncomfortable but your airway is open.
For all of those, a 24-hour private clinic gets you seen faster, in English, with prescriptions in hand before you leave. Doctor Pattaya operates around the clock in South Pattaya and handles exactly these situations every day. Walk in, call ahead, or message on WhatsApp. If you cannot move, we send a doctor to your hotel.
The rule is simple. If someone is unconscious, not breathing normally, or bleeding in a way you cannot control, call 1669 first. For everything else, call us.
The Most Common Emergencies Tourists and Expats Face in Pattaya
These are the situations we actually see walk through the door, not what a textbook would predict.
Motorbike accidents are the most frequent. Even a slow fall on a rented scooter can produce road rash, lacerations, and the occasional fracture. Clean the wound fast. Tropical wounds infect quickly in this heat. If bone is visible or you cannot bear weight on a limb, go straight to hospital. For graze wounds and cuts, our travel health and urgent care service handles this without the A&E wait.
Food poisoning peaks during the hot season and after late-night street food. Most cases settle with rest and oral rehydration. When it does not improve after 24 hours, or when there is blood in the stool, high fever, or no urine output, come in for a clinical review.
Heat exhaustion catches people by surprise, especially after a full day at Jomtien beach followed by alcohol. You will feel dizzy, nauseous, sweaty, and your pulse will be racing. Get into shade and cool air immediately. IV fluid therapy speeds recovery significantly, and it is one of the most common things we do here.
Alcohol-related emergencies are real. If someone is unresponsive after drinking, put them in the recovery position and call 1669. Do not leave them alone.
Other Contacts That Could Save Time in a Crisis
Your country’s embassy is worth saving in your phone before you arrive. Embassy emergency lines run after hours and can help with lost passports, arrests, hospitalisation, or getting home. Search your country name plus "embassy Bangkok emergency line" to find the right number.
Travel insurance companies have 24-hour assistance lines too. Save yours before you land. If you need hospital admission, call them early. Some insurers want to pre-authorise treatment or arrange direct billing with the hospital. Sorting this after the fact delays your claim.
For infectious disease concerns, including animal bites, rashes after travel, or a suspected tropical illness, the Disease Control Hotline at 1422 can advise on next steps. We handle these directly at Doctor Pattaya as well, including post-exposure care and vaccination after animal bites.
After the Emergency: Insurance, Reports, and Follow-Up Care
The crisis is over. Now comes the paperwork, and tourists consistently underestimate this part.
If the incident involved a crime, a road accident, or an injury caused by another person, you need a police report. Contact the Tourist Police on 1155 or visit their Pattaya office directly. Most travel insurers require this document to process a claim. Get it before you fly home.
Collect every receipt: medical bills, prescriptions, transport to hospital. Ask for an itemised invoice in English. Most private hospitals in Pattaya will produce this on request. Doctor Pattaya issues insurance-ready receipts and written clinical summaries for every patient seen at our clinic.
If you are flying home after an injury or illness, some airlines require a fit-to-fly certificate. We can assess and issue this at the clinic. Do not assume you are cleared to board without checking first.
Follow-up care matters more than most people realise. A wound cleaned in A&E still needs a dressing check two to three days later. Antibiotics started at a hospital need to be finished. Many tourists skip this because they feel better, then arrive home with an infection that has taken hold. If you are still in Pattaya for a few more days, come back in. If you are flying out, carry your discharge paperwork and tell your GP at home what treatment you received. You can find more guidance on this through our travel health page.
